The application period for the programme begins on April 22 and ends on May 17. A total of approximately 20 students will be selected for roles in production and maintenance. The studies will begin on September 1, 2026.
The programme helps the company prepare for upcoming retirements in the coming years. Apprenticeships support the transfer of knowledge to a new generation.
“Apprenticeship training is an important channel for us to find and develop new talent. At the same time, it offers an opportunity to train directly in working life,” says Helena Kumpulainen, HR Director at Ovako Imatra.
The programme is carried out in cooperation with Saimaan ammattiopisto Sampo. The programme starting this autumn will be the third implementation together. While the content of the training remains the same, the structure of the qualification will be slightly updated. Participants will complete a further vocational qualification in process industry, specialising in metals processing.
“We have gained motivated employees through apprenticeships who are committed to their work and develop quickly into multi-skilled professionals. I see this as a win-win both for the students and for us as an employer,” Kumpulainen notes.
Students are employed by Ovako throughout the programme, and learning takes place mainly through practical work supported by workplace instructors. Sampo guides, monitors, and evaluates the progress of the studies and provides support for the implementation of the training. Recruitment for the programme is carried out in cooperation with Staffpoint.
