Municipality of Ruokolahti

An agile platform for new initiatives

THE MUNICIPALITY OF RUOKOLAHTI OFFERS ITS RESIDENTS THE CONDITIONS FOR A GOOD EVERYDAY LIFE, FUNCTIONAL SERVICES, AND A NATURE-CLOSE ENVIRONMENT ON THE SHORES OF LAKE SAIMAA. IT INVESTS IN SUSTAINABLE GROWTH, VITALITY, AND FUTURE ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

Among businesses, the municipality is known for its agile way of operating, personal service, and smooth cooperation.

– We want to make business establishment and growth as effortless as possible. Things move forward quickly here and in collaboration, says Municipal Manager Jukka-Pekka Bergman.

Its location by Lake Saimaa is strongly reflected in residents’ everyday life, leisure time, and tourism. Diverse opportunities for physical activities, enjoying nature, and culture keep the municipality vibrant all year round.

Well-known attractions include Huuhanranta, Kummakivi, and the Saimaa Archipelago Route. The municipal harbor, along with its services, serves as a pleasant meeting place for both visitors and locals.

Closeness to nature is also visible in the municipality’s development. The municipality is part of the Saimaa Geopark area, known for its unique natural and geological environment. In addition, Ruokolahti is part of the Hinku network and promotes the use of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and low-emission solutions in both real estate and transportation.

– For us, sustainable development means concrete actions and solutions that support both vitality and a good everyday life, says Vitality Developer Sami Rasimus.

Ruokolahti’s strengths include a good location, a strong economy, and a business-friendly operating environment. The municipality is located close to a major forest industry cluster and offers companies space to grow and opportunities for collaboration. Businesses are supported by the municipality’s vitality developer as well as the regional development company KEHY (Imatra Region Development Company), and close cooperation is also maintained with local educational institutions.

– Ruokolahti has a strong culture of getting things done. We want to be an active partner for companies, networks, and new initiatives, Bergman says.

From the Greenreality Network, Ruokolahti expects new cooperation opportunities, visibility, and access to international networks that support the growth and sustainable development of local businesses. In return, the municipality acts within the network as an enabler that promotes responsible solutions in a practical way.
