Eco-friendly diet

Food is one of three main causes of environmental impact along with housing and motoring. Food production is the cause of a significant percentage of GHG emissions, while eutrophication is largely linked to food production and consumption.

Food production inevitably has adverse effects on the environment, but these effects can be mitigated through the choices we make. As a rule, fruit and vegetable products put less strain on the environment than does the production of animal-based products. Furthermore, the environmental effects of a person’s consumption can be mitigated by increasing the share in-season ingredients into our diet. Environmentally friendly food choices are good for the environment, as well as our own health.

Tips for an eco-friendly diet

  1. Eat plenty of vegetables, berries and fruit
  2. Minimise the amount of food waste
  3. Invest in vegetables and fruit that are in season
  4. Be brave and try new vegetable protein products
  5. Favour local foods
