From climate plans to actions at South Karelia municipalities

The province of South Karelia was one of the first HINKU provinces. The province joined the Carbon Neutral Municipalities (HINKU) network as the first province. A road map and program for achieving carbon neutrality has been drawn up for the province. Many municipalities in South Karelia are also members of the HINKU network. Municipalities have prepared climate programs.

Road maps and climate programs help the province and municipalities to understand the challenges of the effects of climate change and its effects in different operational sectors.

The project's goal is to ensure the implementation of climate programs and road maps and to support companies in responsibility, energy and climate challenges. The project is divided into work packages, the purpose of which is to help the most critical sectors in the province. The goal of the project is also to strengthen operations in the future.
Three work packages will help the project move forward.

Work package 1. Coordinate the implementation of the programs, ensure the implementation of climate work, and communicate about the province's climate practices.
Work package 2. Responding to companies' environmental challenges
Work package 3. Speeding up energy efficiency solutions

The project's results are shared information and support for companies and municipalities, an energy efficiency report for the utilization of water heat, and a carbon footprint calculation for companies.
