LCA Consulting carried out a carbon footprint calculation for LOAS, the Student Housing Foundation for the Region of Lappeenranta, in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG). The purpose of the carbon footprint calculation was to support and develop the assessment of sustainability in the operations of LOAS.
LOAS intends to reduce its carbon footprint by developing and adapting its operations. The carbon footprint assessment demonstrated which operations could be developed or altered to reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint and to ensure carbon neutrality in the future. The calculation was based on data from 2018. Development will be tracked by updating the assessment with 2020 data.
LCA Consulting carries out carbon footprint calculations for companies and organisations in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) to support the assessment, monitoring and reporting of the sustainability of operations in companies and organisations. The calculation helps identify the most significant sources of emissions in the organisation’s operations, allowing the organisation to plan and implement measures for reducing emissions. Calculations are carried out once a year to allow companies and organisations to monitor their impact on emissions as a part of sustainability reporting and annual reporting.
The GHG Protocol is the most widely used calculation and reporting framework for determining the carbon footprint of companies and organisations. According to the GHG Protocol, the carbon footprint is assessed on three levels: the company’s direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from energy production (Scope 2) and indirect emissions in the value chain (Scope 3). The scope of the carbon footprint calculation is tailored according to the needs of each customer. Usually, Scopes 1 and 2 and relevant parts of Scope 3 are taken into account when calculating the carbon footprint
