Toivon ikkuna maailmalle (which means “a window of hope for the world”) is a café and charity shop that serves five parishes. The shop sells handicrafts made by parish volunteers, fair trade food and drink products, charity coffee roasted by the Lehmus Roastery, loose-leaf tea from TeaHouse of Wehmais, the shop’s own range of world jewellery, and much more. All proceeds from the shop go to the parishes’ missionary work.
As a Greeenreality partner, Toivon ikkuna maailmalle is seeking to improve its environmental friendliness by enhancing and updating its waste sorting. In the future, the company will be highlighting environmental priorities in its procurement of, for example, products and consumables. Toivon ikkuna maailmalle will also be actively informing its customers of environmental issues, and highlighting things such as fair trade production and local production.
After only two months of partnership, Toivon ikkuna maailmalle has already made a good start towards achieving its targets. Waste sorting is now more efficient thanks to more waste collection points and new waste containers with sorting labels that facilitate recycling. Training in waste sorting has also been arranged for volunteers working in the café.
Customers, staff and other parish organisations have been actively informed about environmental issues and the company’s Greenreality partnership. These green values will be receiving more visibility both internally and externally.
